Cholesterol

Also known as: Skin Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a critical component of the skin's lamellar bodies alongside ceramides and fatty acids. The ideal molar ratio for barrier repair is approximately 1:1:1 (ceramides:cholesterol:fatty acids). Topical cholesterol helps restore the lipid matrix of the stratum corneum, reducing transepidermal water loss. Often used in barrier repair formulations targeting eczema and dry skin.
