Kojic Acid

Also known as: 5-Hydroxy-2-(Hydroxymethyl)-4H-Pyran-4-one

Kojic acid is a natural chelating agent produced by fungi during fermentation. It inhibits tyrosinase by chelating copper ions, reducing melanin synthesis. Effective for hyperpigmentation and melasma. Can cause contact dermatitis in some individuals. Often combined with other brightening agents for enhanced efficacy. Unstable in formulations and may cause product discolouration.
