pH Adjuster

Triethanolamine

Triethanolamine

Also known as: TEA, Trolamine

Triethanolamine (TEA) is used as a pH adjuster and emulsifier in cosmetic formulations. It neutralises acidic ingredients and activates carbomer gels. There are concerns about the formation of nitrosamines when combined with certain other ingredients, which has led some formulators to prefer sodium hydroxide or aminomethyl propanol as alternatives.
